Georgia State Senator Hunter Hill announced Tuesday he plans to run for Governor in 2018.
The Republican, who represents State Senate District 6, made the announcement via email statement.
"Now - more than ever - is the time to launch a bold, new vision for Georgia’s future," said Hill in the statement. "I have been thinking and praying about this decision for some time, and we are ready. My many years of diverse leadership experience in military combat, business, and politics provides a unique perspective that will guide Georgia to reach its full potential."
Hill was elected to the Senate in 2012. He has served as Chair of the Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committee and Vice-Chair of the Judicial Committee.
Hill joins Secretary of State Brian Kemp in the Republican race for governor. Lt. Governor Casey Cagle has filed paperwork to run for the governor's office, although he has not made a public announcement of his candidacy yet.
