While many details remain unclear, a young boy was flown from a Winder residence to Atlanta late Wednesday afternoon to receive medical treatment for an apparent gunshot wound.

Deputies with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a home on Avalon Court near University Parkway around 4:30, where Cpt. Ryan Sears says they found the young victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

"The juvenile male was life-flighted to Egleston Hospital for treatment," Seats explained. "This is still a very active investigation and the Sheriff's Office is not releasing any other information at this time."

It is unknown who was holding the gun at the time of the shooting, and Sears did not say whether the shooting was intentional or accidental in nature.

The Sheriff's Office is expected to release an update on the shooting sometime Thursday.
