The city of Clarkesville will soon boast a new mural on the north wall of the Kollock building.

Mural artist John Christian will begin work on the mural, which will face the Clarkesville gazebo, Thursday. Portions of the mural will also be painted during the Mountain Laurel Festival May 20th.

Part of the Go Georgia Arts Mural Trail tourism initiative, the mural will depict a scenic and pastoral view of Clarkesville through the seasons. Once completed, Clarkesville's mural will join nine other downtown areas, including Blue Ridge, on the mural trail.

Christian, an artist with Go Georgia Arts, was selected as the muralist by a committee of local business owners and members of the community.

The mural is funded in part by a Vibrant Communities Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts, as well as Clarkesville Main Street and the Clarkesville Business & Community Association.

The mural is expected to be completed by early June.
