Members of the Gainesville Police Department spent Friday morning raising funds at various Dunkin' Donuts locations during the annual "Cops on Donut Shops" event.
The 2nd Annual Dunkin’ Donuts Cops on Donut Shops event is a statewide event to raise money for Special Olympics athletes in Georgia. GPD Officers and members of the Juvenile Justice Department at the Dunkin' Donuts on Jesse Jewell Parkway explained that the event is also a chance to meet people in a different capacity.
"This is an opportunity for us to meet the community as people are driving thru here," said Corporal Jessica Van.
"They might say 'cops and donuts, that is so cliche,' but it is worth it because it is such a good cause. We get to also interact with the athletes, so just seeing that inspires us a lot," said Van.
The GPD participated in the event at Dunkin' Donuts locations on Jesse Jewell Parkway, Thompson Bridge Road and Mundy Mill Road working the counter, drive thru, roof top and selling merchandise to raise money and bring awareness for the Special Olympics from 5-11 Friday morning.
