It's been about a decade since Hall County has seen any large-scale development, according to Hall County Commissioner Scott Gibbs, and he says now that the business environment is improving, he wants the county to be as business friendly as possible.

At Thursday night's county commission meeting, Gibbs asked his fellow commissioners to okay the formation of a committee to look over the county's review process for developers.

Gibbs, who got the go-ahead to form the committee, said afterward he just wants to make sure Hall County is "business friendly" as development increases.

"When [developers] turn in a set of plans, you have a checklist," Gibbs said. "State law changes, federal law changes, so we'd like to revisit that list, make sure that what is being asked is still required...make sure we're following the guidelines and make sure it's an efficient process."

Gibbs said he and fellow commissioner Billy Powell would coordinate the committee. He also wants county engineering staff to participate, and he said he'd like to see at least one developer on the committee.

"We want to bring a developer in - tell me your complaint, how can we make it better," Gibbs said.

And, Gibbs said the time is right to form such a committee, since it appears the economy is beginning to turn around.

"We see a lot of questions coming in and development beginning to take place - plans being submitted - so we see this as a good time to streamline or revisit and update our process," Gibbs said.

He estimated it would take a couple of months to put the committee together and then complete an update.
