Cleveland police report they are investigating an incident where a 1-year-old child was left alone in a car in the parking lot at Walmart in Cleveland Wednesday afternoon.

Lt. Aaron Wieland said a concerned citizen called police after hearing the child screaming and investigated.

Officers responded to the store parking lot around 3 p.m.

Wieland said the vehicle was not locked and a window was partially down.  Officers got the child out of the car and he was checked out by medical personnel and, except for being red and hot, was ok.

Authorities are not sure how long the child was in the vehicle. Wieland said police are reviewing  Walmart security video to help determine that.

The mother came out of the store while officers were there,  according to Wieland.

Wieland said the child was taken into protective custody and turned over to the Department of Family and Children’s Services.

No charges have been filed yet, and the investigation is continuing, according to Wieland.
