A female dirt bike operator was injured about 2 p.m Sunday on a mountain road in White County.

White County Sheriff’s Capt. Scotty Scarbrough said Deputy Casey responded to Tray Mountain Road concerning an injured person.

Upon arrival, the deputy spoke to an injured dirt bike rider, identified as Maria Velez, according to Scarbrough. Velez said she was part of a group of dirt bikes traveling east on Tray Mountain Road.

Velez said a grey Jeep Cherokee traveling west at a high rate of speed caused one of the riders in front of her to slow down abruptly.

Valez said she could not stop fast enough and lost control of the dirt bike, according to Scarbrough. The bike overturned and rolled about three times.

Velez injured her leg as a result, and was transported by White County ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Scarbrough.
