Anticipating more than 10,000 users each year, Georgia Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Mark Williams, Hiawassee Mayor Pro-Tem Liz Ordiales and others recently dedicated the Mayor’s Park Boat Landing, giving boaters and anglers improved access to Lake Chatuge.
This facility includes a 26-foot wide concrete boat ramp, 24 parking spaces for trailered vehicles, plus 10 additional car spaces. The area will be accessible to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Mayor’s Park Boat Landing will be part of a larger planned City Park that will include a pavilion, bathrooms, a dog park, walking trail, fishing piers and picnic areas.
Mayor’s Park Boat Landing was constructed using a mix of federal Sport Fish Restoration fund dollars, state and local monies. Several participating people and agencies were involved with the development of this area, including the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the City of Hiawassee and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
