CLEVELAND — White County Public Safety officials on Tuesday released information about a weekend fire call to Friendship Nursing Home.

Around 6 p.m. Sunday, White County 9-1-1 Dispatch received a call from the fire alarm company that monitors Friendship Nursing Home that an audible alarm was activated and the staff of the facility confirmed smoke inside the building, according to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.

White County Fire Services Stations 4, 5 and 2 were dispatched, along with automatic aid from Cleveland Fire Department, according to Murphy.

Murphy said when the first units arrived, nothing was showing from the outside of the building; however there was smoke inside.

Nursing home personnel were already in “evacuation” mode, moving residents to safety, Murphy said.

Capt. Terry Sosebee of White County Fire Services stated the investigation determined that a fan in a storage area had faulted.

The small fire was extinguished and the evacuation was halted while fire crews conducted a further investigation.

Murphy said the nursing home staff contacted an electrician who determined that the building was safe for the residents to return.

One staff member inhaled some smoke, but no one was transported and no other injuries were reported, according to Murphy.

Firefighters were on scene for two-1/2 hours, according to Murphy.
