As Hurricane Irma promises to create havoc across Georgia at the first of next week, two local 9-11 services in the area have been canceled for Monday.

"In light of hurricane Irma’s expected landfall and the likelihood of significant weather-related incidents, the 9-11 First Responders’ Breakfast and ceremonies that were scheduled for 8 a.m on Monday, September 11th at Gainesville First United Methodist Church have been canceled," said Deputy Stephen Wilbanks in a press statement issued Friday morning.

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle had been scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the event, but Wilbanks noted Cagle is actively involved with managing the pending hurricane emergency.

In addition to the breakfast, the 9-11 Memorial Service organized by the Gainesville Fire Department has been canceled.

"The Gainesville Fire Department, as well as many surrounding departments, are on standby for the possible severe weather that may occur on Monday and Tuesday, which may include sending personnel to assist in other areas of the state," said Gainesville Fire Division Chief Keith Smith in a separate press statement.
