Some Jackson EMC members experienced power outages Sunday as a result of high wind arriving ahead of Hurricane Irma and the electric co-op is bracing for more today.
As the storm pushes northward, more significant wind and rain is forecast for northeast Georgia today - wind gusts of up to 60 miles an hour and rainfall totaling 4-6 inches. Already, at daybreak today, the Irma's outer bands of rain and wind were circulating into north Georgia. The National Weather Service overnight issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the area. A Tropical Storm Watch had been in effect since early Sunday.

As of Sunday night, in addition to its own crews, there were more than 200 outside crew members from contractors and neighboring utilities ready to be dispatched.
