Posted 2:14PM on Thursday 21st September 2017 ( 7 years ago )

A Sandy Springs firefighter is dead from a motorcycle accident early Thursday morning in Forsyth County.

Jacob Hammond, 21, of Cumming was the only person involved in the wreck, which happened on Bannister Road near Namon Wallace Road in North Forsyth, according to Deputy Doug Rainwater, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Hammond was headed west and lost control of his motorcycle while he was making a turn.

The crash remains under investigation, though Rainwater said investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor. No other vehicles were involved.

"We have to do the toxicology reports and all that, and that will take a few weeks," said Rainwater.

Hammond died at the scene.

Rainwater said Hammond was a graduate of the Forsyth County School System.
