Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia will honor Ruby Brawner later this year as the 2018 Gainesville Woman of Distinction.
Brawner will be recognized at a luncheon in her honor Tuesday, March 13, at 11:30 at the Chattahoochee Country Club.
The Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction award honors a woman who reflects the values in the "Girl Scout Promise and Law" and who serves as an excellent role model for girls. A press release from the Girl Scouts describes Brawner as a "compassionate, caring person who exemplifies servant leadership."
It goes on to say that her commitment to Gainesville and Hall County is demonstrated through her involvement in the Gainesville Prayer Band, Meals on Wheels and volunteer work at the Medical Center.
Brawner, who received her GED in 1997 at th eage of 75 after having to drop out of school at a young age, was recognized that year for that achievement by the state Department of Technical and Adult Education Office of Adult Literacy.
