The White County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a possible child molestation incident at a daycare center in Cleveland, but so far they have discovered no evidence to back up the allegations.

Capt. Rick Kelley said in an email that the White County Sheriff's Office was notified of a possible child molestation that had occurred on Oct. 15, 2018 at Small Wonders Academy on Westmoreland Road.

The complainant advised investigators that her 3-year-old grandson stayed at the daycare center and was molested at the facility.

Kelley said the child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) for a sexual assault exam.

The next day, White County Sheriff’s Office investigators followed up with Small Wonders Academy, according to Kelley.  He said the owners and staff were very cooperative with investigators. Investigators interviewed several staff members and some other people associated with Small Wonders Academy. Investigators spent a couple of days reviewing numerous hours of surveillance video from the daycare,Kelley said.

Kelley said the sexual assault exam did not show any obvious signs of trauma. The sexual assault kit has been submitted to the GBI crime lab for further testing.

According to Kelley, at this point in the investigation, there is no evidence that any sexual assault occurred at Small Wonders Academy or by anyone associated with Small Wonders Academy.

The case will remain open pending the results of the sexual assault exam, which can take several months.
