Good News at Noon needs volunteers for Thanksgiving meal prep

For years now, the volunteers have outnumbered the guests who attend the Good News at Noon lunch on Thanksgiving Day.

Co-director of the ministry Beth Oropeza knows that's a good "problem" to have, but she's hoping this year some of those volunteers can spare some time earlier in the week.

"We still need volunteers to help us prepare on Monday through Wednesday or to serve supper on Thanksgiving night only," Oropeza said in an email.

While Good News at Noon is known for providing shelter and food to low income members of the community, Oropeza said what they really would like is for more people to come to the facility at 979 David Street and share Thanksgiving lunch.

"We would LOVE to have more guests come eat with us!  Anyone who is looking for community and/or a good Thanksgiving meal is welcome to join us at noon on Thanksgiving Day," Oropeza said.

In addition to a hot meal, Good News at Noon will be giving away canned goods and clothing to those who need those items. Plus, if there are Thanksgiving leftovers, they'll send those home with folks, as well.

"All of our food has been donated by generous businesses, churches and families in our community and by M & M Down Home Catering," Oropeza said.

To find out how to volunteer, go to the Good News at Noon website and follow the tab for Holiday Volunteers.
