CLARKESVILLE — You could call it an early Christmas present. Habersham EMC’s Board of Directors has approved a rate decrease for its members by reducing the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) factor for the remainder of 2018.

In November, HEMC members will save $28 for every 1,000 kilowatt-hour (kwh) used, resulting in a total savings of approximately $2.5 million for the membership.

The actual savings will vary depending on the amount of energy used. Since the WPCA factor varies, the December reduction will be announced in the first week of December.

The cooperative also announced as part of its commitment to improving transparency, the electric bills have been changed to show the three components that were previously presented in the total electricity charge:

Habersham Electric Membership Corporation is an electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Clarkesville. HEMC serves approximately 25,000 members with 33,000 meters in six Northeast Georgia counties: Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens and White.

Habersham Electric Membership Corp. is announcing a rate decrease for its members through the end of the year.
