After nearly two and a half hours of competition, a Sardis Enrichment Academy 5th grader emerged victorious in the 2018 Hall County Spelling Bee.

Kate Stillerman correctly spelled the words "filibuster" and "nebbish" after runner-up Sarah Sanders, an 8th grader from East Hall Middle School, stumbled on the word "macadamia."

Both students will represent the Hall County School District later this month in the regional competition at Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center in Marietta.

This year's bee went 19 rounds and included 124 words, as well as a vocabulary round.

The annual spelling bee was held Wednesday, Jan. 31 at the Academies of Discovery. A total of 32 students from Hall County's middle and elementary schools were part of the 2018 bee.
