The Hall County School System reported Thursday morning that officials are dealing with a couple of bogus social media posts about weapons on a school campus.
"School districts across the country are increasingly dealing with anxiety created by anonymous social media posts. We are not immune," Superintendent Will Schofield wrote in an email to school district staff and media.
Schofield said administrators and law enforcement are investigating a false report that a student at Flowery Branch High School was placed in ISS [in school suspension] for having a weapon at the school. A response post indicated the student would seek retribution.
"There is NO basis to any of these posts," Schofield said. "We always catch the individual who starts them, and they always end up with a very unfortunate discipline experience to deal with."
School system officials in Banks and Habersham counties have also dealt this week with hoax threats and inaccurate social media posts about school threats.
