Three University of North Georgia Greek organizations have been suspended for the duration of an investigation into hazing and alcohol violations.
An official statement from UNG indicated that two sororities, Kappa Delta and Phi Mu, and fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon had been issued interim suspensions until the investigation into separate hazing and alcohol misuse were complete.
Greek organizations are only available at the Dahlonega campus of UNG.
"UNG is consistently cited as one of the safest campus communities in Georgia, and we take seriously any behavior that threatens the safety of our students or other members of our campus community," said the statement. "We will investigate the matter thoroughly and, as needed, hold individuals and organizations accountable for behaviors that do not align with University policy or fraternal standards.
A spokesperson for the university declined comment in an email, saying, "We are not doing any interviews on this matter."
