With rainfall topping four inches in many parts of the region this week, the level of Lake Lanier is now above full pool for the first time in more than two years.

According to U.S. Geological Survey statistics, the level of Lake Lanier at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday was 1071.79.  Full pool is 1071, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The last time the lake level was this high was in March of 2016; there had been a steady drop in the water level with drought conditions in the region for the last year.

According to AccessWDUN meteorologist John Wetherbee, more rain is in the forecast for Thursday, which translates to more water for Lanier and other area waterways.
