Alyssa Yarck, of Gainesville and Troop10811, has been awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.
The award recognizes girls in grades 9 through 12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through remarkable projects that have sustainable impact in the community and beyond. Since 1916, girls have successfully answered the call to "Go Gold," an act that indelibly marks them as accomplished members of their communities and the world.
Yarck recently completed her Gold Award project titled A.S.K.N.O.T. (Assisting Special Kids Needs and Other Technologies).
Yarck worked with the local EMS and school systems to revamp and update a database of special needs children in Hall County for EMS to use in case of emergencies. The database gives EMS vital information about households with these children in the event of an emergency. The database will be maintained by Hall County EMS and the Hall County School System.
Yarck received this honor at the Homer United Methodist Church on May 6.
According to the Girl Scout Research Institute’s (GSRI’s) report, The Power of the Girl Scout Gold Award: Excellence in Leadership and Life, Gold Award Girl Scouts receive greater lifetime benefits than their peers with regard to positive sense of self, life satisfaction, leadership, life success, community service, and civic engagement thanks to their experience in Girl Scouting, including earning their Gold Award.
