With the goal of making Hall County more development friendly, government officials have created a new Planning and Development Department.

The former Hall County Planning Department has been reorganized and will officially open on July 1, although Planning and Development Director Srikanth Yamala said the process is already in place.

"As the county continues to grow, we wanted to make sure there's a platform for the development community to have, essentially, a one-stop shop for getting residential and commercial permits for large-scale developments," Yamala said.

According to Yamala, engineering services has now been brought under the Planning and Development Department umbrella along with other divisions - Business License, Building Inspections, Development Review, the Gainesville- Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization (GHMPO), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Planning & Zoning.

All of those divisions will be located on the third floor of the Hall County Government Center on Browns Bridge Road, again making it more convenient and efficient for developers to do business with the county.

"This will streamline the entire review process in a timely manner," Yamala said.

Creation of the new department was part of the updated Hall County Strategic Plan, approved last year.
