The "location and design" of a road widening project north of Gainesville has been approved.

The project calls for widening Cleveland Highway from two to four lanes from Limestone Parkway to near Jim Hood/Nopone Road.  It also includes the widening of four bridges - two over the Chattahoochee River and two over the East Fork Little River.

Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Katie Strickland pointed out that transportation funding is done in three phases:  design phase, right of way phase, and construction phase.

"The preliminary design phase is complete and approved...and its time to move to right of way," Strickland added.  "We are beginning final design and right of way phase now."
