The Hall County Board of Commissioners Monday is expected to consider applying for a $700,000 federal grant to be used in the development of Athens Street Park.

The money is being made available through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program. A 50% match of $350,000 will be provided by the county with an in-kind donation and cash funds.

The proposed location for the park is next to the Hall County Health Department.   County Commissioner Jeff Stowe hosted a public hearing on the plans for the park in April.

The ORLP offers nationally competitive grants specifically to help create and improve state and locally-owned park and other outdoor recreation areas,  particularly in city neighborhoods that lack parks and recreational opportunities, according to the Georgia State Parks Website.

A total of $13.3 million in funding is available nationwide this year.
