A homeowner is uninjured, but two dogs have been killed in an early-morning house fire in Buford.

The Gwinnett County Fire Department said crews responded at 5:48 a.m. to the burning home in the 600 block of Riverside Road in Buford.

"A caller to 911 reported the front porch on fire and attempting to get family pets out of the home," said Fire Department spokesman Justin Wilson in a press statement.

Wilson said while the homeowner was able to rescue some animals, two dogs were found deceased inside the house.

"The property is also home to a private horse stable known as Brookmore Farm. There were no stables involved or injuries to horses at the location," Wilson said.

A fire investigator has ruled the fire accidental, saying it appears to have started close to a faulty electrical outlet on the front porch of the house.

The fire caused heavy damage to the front porch, stairway and part of the attic, according to Wilson. He said the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage.

Wilson also noted the homeowner was sleeping at the time of the fire, and she was awakened by the sound of a smoke alarm, which allowed her to escape unharmed.
