A citizen journalist who was sentenced on a misdemeanor obstruction charge in Dawson County Superior Court late last year plans to file a motion for a new trial Tuesday, July 31.

Nydia Tisdale of Roswell was arrested in August 2014 for videotaping a Republican Party rally at Burt's Pumpkin Farm in Dawson County. Tisdale was asked to stop recording, but she refused to do so, apparently believing she had the right to tape the event. She was forcibly removed by law enforcement under protest.

Tisdale spent a week on trial in December 2017 and was ordered to serve 12 months probation, pay a fine of $1,000 and serve 40 hours of community service. Tisdale was cleared of more serious charges of criminal trespass and felony obstruction.

The hearing for a motion for a new trial is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Dawson County Government Center in downtown Dawsonville.
