Nine young men recently successfully completed the Passport to Manhood program in a one month, accelerated summer session, provided through a partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier and the Hall County Juvenile Court.
The goal of Passport to Manhood is to "teach and promote responsibility, reinforce positive behavior and develop character in adolescent males," according to a Boys & Girls Clubs news release.
The young men participated in discussions and activities that reinforce character, leadership and positive behavior along with fun summer trips including hiking, boating and laser tag. Steve Mickens, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier spent some time with the young men and said “It’s gratifying to hear them really open up about their personal situations. You wouldn’t get that unless you are with them in a supportive situation.”
During the school year Passport to Manhood is a 14-session program that concentrates on specific aspects of manhood through highly interactive activities. The program is available to Male Club members ages 8-17. Each Club member participant is issued his own “passport” to underscore his personal journey of maturation and growth. One session is conducted each week, with each activity to be completed within 30 to 45 minutes.
