CLEVELAND — The White County Board of Education has given its approval to hire a new assistant superintendent of schools, a job current Superintendent Laurie Burkett held prior to her promotion.
The board voted Thursday night to hire Scott Justus, the current principal at West Hall High School, for the position, but requested confidentiality until Justus could meet with his staff today, Aug. 6.
Burkett said White County is ready to put Justus to work.
“With all of his talents and skills, I think that he will come in and fit right in,” Burkett said. “His first job, we’ve already talked about it, will be to help us with our safety. We’ve got some areas to work on so that we can keep our kids safe.”
Justus began his career at North Hall High School in 1996 as a health and physical education teacher, also coaching football and baseball. In 2002, he became the head baseball coach at Chestatee High School and served as a department chair. In 2006, Justus moved to West Hall High School as an assistant principal. After seven years in that position, he became the principal at West Hall.
Currently, Justus also serves as the chairman for the ethics committee for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
White County officials have not announced a start date for Justus.
