The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) said initial claims for unemployment insurance increased in July across most of the state.

The statewide increase was 35-percent from June to July, although State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said it's not unusual to see an increase this time of year.

"Initial claims typically increase from June to July due to employer-filed claims in manufacturing," Butler said in a GDOL press statement issued Thursday morning.

In the counties around Gainesville, all saw an uptick in first-time claims with the exception of Gwinnett County, where claims dropped by 6.6-percent in July.

The largest increases were in Habersham and White counties; Hall County's claims went up by .07-percent.
