There was some movement among the four area teams ranked in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association prep poll released this week -- as well as a new program receiving votes.
Buford remains the highest-ranked northeast Georgia program, though the Wolves dropped one spot to No. 3 in the Class 5A poll after dropping a 19-14 decision to highly-ranked Deerfield Beach (Fla.). The Wolves (2-1) have a bye this week.
Meanwhile, Flowery Branch climbed two spots in Class 4A, vaulting over Thomson and St. Pius to fifth after a 28-14 win over Clarke Central last week. The Falcons (2-0) will play host to Winder-Barrow on Friday in a game broadcast live on WDUN AM 550.
In Class 3A, Jefferson inched up one spot to eighth after an impressive rebound win over West Hall, 48-6. The Dragons (1-1) will play host to Southside (South Carolina) on Friday at a remodeled Memorial Stadium.
Rabun County maintained its spot at No. 8 in Class 2A as the Wildcats (1-1) sat through a bye last week. Rabun County will play host to Stephens County this week in the Wildcats' first home game since last season's Class 2A state title game in Tiger.
Two other teams received votes, including Commerce, which received three more votes to sit just outside the Class A top 10. The Tigers (3-0) have a bye this week. And, in Class 3A, North Hall showed up for the first time this season following a 27-17 defeat of Class 7A Cherokee that made the Trojans 3-0. North Hall also has a bye this week.
