HOMER — Banks County won its third straight game and kept pace in Region 8-2A with a 31-7 win over Oglethorpe County Friday night at Leopards Stadium.
The Leopards (3-2, 2-0 Region 8-2A) are tied with Elbert County, Rabun County, and Union County atop the region standings.
Terrance Walker rushed for a pair of first half scores, one in each of the first two quarters, and the Leopards defense did not allow a score until the final two minutes of the game.
Walker scored on runs of 6 and 9 yards while Jacob Lahotsky added a 4-yard touchdown run as Banks County led 21-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter Erwin Durmic booted a 26-yard field goal and the defense set up the Leopards final score forcing a Oglethorpe County (0-5, 0-2) fumble on the Patriots 1. Quarterback Sawyer Pace pushed the lead to 35-0 on a keeper moments later.
Banks County will play host to 2017 Class 2A state runner-up and four-time defending region champion Rabun County (4-1, 2-0) next week.
