Memorial services are set for Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 for Dr. Edwin Riley "Ed" Burnette, a longtime Gainesville dentist who was the director of Good News Dental Clinic for a number of years.

Dr. Burnette earned his D.D.S. degree from Emory University Dental School in 1961. At that time, he and his wife Elaine moved to Gainesville to set up a dental practice.

In addition to working in his private practice, Dr. Burnette served as the Director of the Green Warren Dental Clinic of the Good News Medical & Dental Clinics from 1997 until January 2015. The free dental clinic was the first of its kind in the state of Georgia and remains among the top free dental clinics in the United States.

"When I chose a career of dentistry over medicine, I made the correct choice. I have thoroughly enjoyed dentistry," reads a quote from Dr. Burnette's obituary.

Rev. Scott Hearn will officiate at the memorial service for Dr. Burnette at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gainesville First United Methodist Church on Thompson Bridge Road.

Dr. Ed Burnette was 86 years old.
