Another dry week in Georgia means increased drought levels

Despite cooler temperatures over the last week, the air was dry, and lack of rain contributed to increasing drought across Georgia.

The Oct. 10 map from the U.S. Drought Monitor showed more than 97% of the state of Georgia is suffering from moderate to extreme drought. Hall County and several other North Georgia counties continue to be impacted by extreme drought, and extreme drought expanded in the southern portion of metro Atlanta. Only a small section of Coastal Georgia and portions of a few counties in the northwestern part of the state are considered abnormally dry, the lowest level of drought.

The National Weather Service is predicting a cold front will move across North and Central Georgia beginning Saturday morning, and the system may spark some rainfall. For now, rainfall predictions are in the 30 to 40% range for the weekend.
