A portion of the I-85 widening project in North Georgia is now complete, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
All lanes of the interstate in both directions between Hamilton Mill Road in Gwinnett County and SR 211 in Barrow County were opened to travel Friday, Oct. 25.
Three lanes are now open for motorists on either side of I-85.
"Roadway improvements have been completed in this area," said GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland in a press statement. "Work will continue in both directions between SR 211 and SR 53 in Jackson County."
The I-85 widening project is the first Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) project to break ground. There are 11 such projects on the GDOT calendar. The I-85 widening project is expected to be complete by fall 2020.
