A deputy with the Madison County Sheriff's Office has been arrested in connection with an Athens murder.
Athens-Clarke County police arrested Winford "Trey" Adams III following a domestic-related shooting at a location on Old Jefferson Road Sunday night. He was off duty at the time.
Authorities have not released the name of the 26-year-old male victim.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest on its Facebook page early Monday morning.
"We are very sad to announce that one of our deputies has been arrested," the post said. "It’s a sad day for all Law Enforcement officers. Please, please, say a prayer for the MCSO family and the family of the victim."
The 32-year-old Adams has been charged with murder.
