Warrants were secured for four sex offenders in Hall County during Operation Watchful Eye IV, but none of them were for new sex offenses.
One offender unlawfully relocated to Chicago, while three others faced other charges.
Operation Watchful Eye is an annual statewide coordinated effort to verify sex offender residences and conduct compliance checks. These checks occur during the Halloween time frame of October 25 to November 1. In Hall County, 13 checks were done on Halloween night and two others were done during normal Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit hours.
“Our SORT Unit always does a fantastic job insuring that the approximately 300 registered sex offenders residing in Hall County are in compliance with the law,” Sheriff Gerald Couch said. “I’m proud of what our men and women were able to accomplishment during Operation Watchful Eye. I will continue to encourage our participation each year with Georgia’s other sheriffs.”
Statewide, the Georgia Sheriff's Association said 13 warrants were issued for new sex offenses, 48 warrants were issued for residency violations and 28 were issued for miscellaneous new charges. It was discovered, statewide, that 190 sex offenders had absconded from their last known address.
The operation began in 2015. Numerous agencies work with the SORT Unit during the operation.
