A Maysville woman, driving the wrong direction on a Jackson County road, was killed when she ran head-on into another vehicle.

Troopers with Georgia State Patrol Post 32 in Athens investigated Monday's fatal crash on SR 15 near Rob Belue Road just outside of Commerce.

Troopers said Geraldine B. Williams, 69, was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger truck southbound in the northbound lanes of SR 15. She struck a 2019 Chrysler sedan head-on.

Williams died at the scene. The driver of the sedan, identified as Shemika C. Reed, 37, of Commerce, was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to troopers.

At this point, investigators are unsure why Williams was driving on the wrong side of the road. An autopsy is being performed to determine if she was impaired in any way.

The fatal collision was reported at 7:18 p.m.
