Winter is more than a month away, but an Arctic air mass that has dumped record snow in places like Buffalo and Detroit, will cover a large part of the country with extreme cold Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service has posted a freeze warning for most of Georgia starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures are not expected to rise above the freezing mark, even in South Georgia. The latest weather map shows temperatures in the teens in the North Georgia mountains. In additiona, wind chills will drop the cold into the single digits in many areas.

Forecasters said the Tuesday and Wednesday temperatures will be the coldest temperatures of the season to date.

Frost and freeze conditions can kill crops and damage sensitive vegetation. Homeowners are cautioned to protect outdoor plumbing to prevent damage.

This map from the National Weather Service shows sub-freezing temperatures will settle across the entire state of Georgia Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
