After a day of deliberations and hear appeals to either move up, move down or protest school enrollment numbers, the Georgia High School Association released the first round of region alignments for the 2020-22 athletic season.
The Reclassification Committee will meet in the GHSA office on Tuesday, November 19 to hear appeals for a lateral transfer of regions or appeals from Class A schools whose request to play up into Class 2A was denied. Schools will have until 4 p.m. on Monday, November, 18.

In Class 7A, as expected, Gainesville will join North Forsyth, Forsyth Central, South Forsyth, Lambert and West Forsyth in Region 6-7A.
In Class 6A, Dacula won its appeal to stay out of Class 7A and will stay in Region 8-6A. But the region will have a drastic new look. Mainstays Dacula, Habersham Central, Winder-Barrow and Lanier, welcome new roommates Denmark High in Forsyth County, Central Gwinnett and Buford.
In Class 5A, Apalachee drops and Jackson County opts to move up. The new Region 8-5A, which houses Hall County's Johnson High, will have Clarke Central, Apalachee, Jackson County, Loganville, Walnut Grove, Eastside and Greenbrier.
In Class 4A, Flowery Branch, East Hall and Chestatee will join Region 8-4A, instead of 7-4A. They'll be thrown in with Jefferson, Cedar Shoals, which dropped from Class 5A, Madison County and North Oconee to form the new region.
In Class 3A, not too much changed in Region 7-3A and Region 8-3A. In 7-4A, Cherokee Bluff, Dawson County, Lumpkin County and North Hall will be joined by West Hall, White County and Gilmer County. In 8-3A, East Jackson, Franklin County, Hart County and Monroe Area stay put, while Oconee County and Stephens County drop from Class 4A to 3A.
In Class 2A, Region 8-2A is pretty much the same with the addition of Riverside Military Academy, up from Class A-Private and Fannin County, down from Class 3A. Banks, Elbert, Fannin, Oglethorpe, Rabun, Riverside and Union make up the new region.
In Class A-Public, which now has eight regions with only public schools, Region 8-A will house Commerce, Greene County, Lincoln County, Social Circle, Towns County, Warren County and Washington-Wilkes.
In Class A-Private, which now has eight regions with only private schools, Lakeview Academy has been shifted into Region 6-A with Fellowship Christian, King's Ridge, Pinecrest Academy and St. Francis.
