One person was killed in an early-morning house fire in South Hall County, according to Hall County Fire Services Division Chief Zachary Brackett.
Brackett said the victim was house-sitting for the owners of the home on Old Stringer Road; the owners were in Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Callers to 911 reported the fire around 2:50 a.m.
"The Hall County Sheriff's Office actually had some units in the area and arrived first and confirmed that the home was fully involved," Brackett said.
He said when firefighters arrived, they found fire showing from every level of the 3,500 square-foot home. Because of the intensity of the fire, crews battled the fire from a defensive mode from the outside of the house.
"We had some reports that there could be someone there...so we really started looking for a victim once the fire was knocked down enough to where we could do so," Brackett said.
The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Brackett said the house was destroyed in the fire; the Hall County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating to determine a cause.
