Christmas on Green Street event kicks off season in Gainesville

The event lived up to its name- Christmas was definitely on Green Street in downtown Gainesville Sunday evening.

Main Street Gainesville and the Hall County Historical Society, Inc. presented the annual event this year, which featured a parade, food trucks, tours of the historic homes downtown and many other holiday-themed festivities.

Christmas on Green Street kicked off at 3 p.m. with the opening of food trucks parked at Pinnacle Bank. The parade stepped off at 4:30 p.m. and included floats from various organizations within the community, and was rounded out with an appearance from the big man himself, Santa Claus. 

After the parade, attendees were welcome to roam Green Street and walk inside many of the historic homes lining either side of the road. All of the houses are now home to businesses, and within some employees handed out refreshments to guests. Many of the houses also featured music performances from local groups on either the porches or front lawns.

The festivities lasted until 7 p.m., and were concluded with the Rotary Tree Lighting. 

Even furry friends came out for the holiday-themed festivities at Christmas on Green Street!

The Grinch was another popular costume worn during the parade for Christmas on Green Street.

The Coca-Cola polar bear made an appearance for the parade. Volunteers also passed out drinks to parade onlookers.

Performers from Heather Wayne's Performing Arts pranced their way down Green Street in the parade.

The Chick-Fil-A cow also made an appearance in the parade to promote the 2019 East/West Classic.

Members of the Gainesville High School Colorguard marched alongside their marching band members in the parade.

The big man himself, Santa Claus, rounded out the Christmas on Green Street parade!

Winner Wellness Center is another one of the businesses that calls Green Street home. Like many of the other businesses, it too was open for the public to step inside of Sunday evening.

At the Gardens on the Green, volunteers passed out free books to children during their Winter Wonderland and Storytelling.
