A Gainesville man has been arrested on a long list of charges stemming from an accident in Forsyth County and the discovery of illegal drugs at his residence.
Authorities said Eddie James Scruggs IV, 21, was arrested Friday following an investigation by the Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad (MANS), the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division, ACE Unit and the Georgia State Patrol.
Scruggs allegedly fled from the scene of a car accident on Fork Road in Forsyth County on Friday, Feb. 1. Later that day, investigators tracked him to his residence on Royal Oak Drive in Gainesville. Authorities said Scruggs had two ounces of heroin packaged in two separate bags, as well as less than an ounce of marijuana packaged in two baggies. Scruggs also had a stolen 9 mm semi-automatic handgun in his possession.
Agents with the MANS unit said the approximate value of the illegal drugs was $16,800.
Scruggs was charged in Hall County with trafficking heroin, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The Georgia State Patrol charged Scruggs with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane, misdemeanor obstruction of an officer and no proof of insurance.
