The Gainesville Police Department is on the lookout for the person or persons who stole a police vehicle and crashed it over the weekend.

Cpl. Jessica Van said the vehicle was stolen around 5:30 Sunday morning from the Paces Landing Apartments off Browns Bridge Road.

Van said someone forced their way into the vehicle and drove from the scene.

"The vehicle sustained a minor crash a short distance from where it was taken. Within minutes, safety features equipped in the vehicle alerted officers to the location where it was recovered," Van wrote in a press statement.

Anyone who might have information on the theft is asked to contact the Gainesville Police Department at 770-535-5165.
