Things are on track for the temporary relocation of the Gainesville library to the old Turner Wood & Smith building starting Monday.

As previously reported, that means the library's current location at West Academy and Main streets will be closed until April 1, when it reopens across the street in its temporary location.  Library Director Lisa McKinney has said, however, there's a possibility the temporary location might open sooner than that, depending on how quickly the move is made.

Last week, in a posting on Facebook, library officials said that March 11-15 during daylight business hours a small desk will set up at the current location so patrons can pick up "holds" and drop off books.  However, no donations will be accepted during this time.

The renovated and expanded downtown branch is expected to be ready for occupancy the middle of 2020.

The downtown branch of the library system (above) will be closed March 11-April 1 in preparation for a renovation and expansion of the facility. The library plans to reopen by April 1 in a temporary location across the street in the old Turner Wood & Smith building.
