The Tumbling Creek Bridge will open to traffic April 4 with a grand opening ceremony on the south end of the bridge.
Hall County began work on the project, which spans 142 feet from Tumbling Creek Road to its new intersection with Old Oakwood Road, in 2014, when Norfolk Southern Railroad closed the nearby railroad crossing.
The new intersection at Old Oakwood Road features additional turn lanes and traffic lights, and it's expected that the new bridge will provide easier access between Ga. 13/Atlanta Highway and Old Oakwood Road - not only for motorists, but for emergency responders as well.
"This bridge will be an asset to the community, and I'm proud of all the men and women who worked tirelessly for nearly five years to make it a reality," said District 2 Commissioner Billy Powell.
"It not only provides a safer route across the railroad in the area, but gives the citizens of Hall County much-needed connectivity between Old Oakwood Road and Atlanta Highway."
The grand opening ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on April 4.
