The Buford Board of Education has approved financing for a small police department to oversee security for the school system.
According to a report in the Gwinnett Daily Post, board members on Monday night approved the hiring of two school resources officers (SROs). The system already has one safety official, and that person will serve as the chief of the police department.
The Post report said the school system will purchase three vehicles and other equipment. Personnel cost for the three-person force will be $205,000.
The Board plans to have the department up and running in time for the 2019-2020 school year.
