A 23-month-old toddler, who police said was abducted from a home in Jefferson early Thursday morning, has been found safe with a relative in Gwinnett County.

Arcade Police Chief Ricky Williams held a press conference with Atlanta television media at 2 p.m. and told reporters Baylee Sue Peeples had been dropped off with a relative earlier in the day. The child was reported to be in the custody of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Williams told reporters Robert Joseph Peeples, 39, abducted the girl from a home on Rock Forge Road in Jefferson around 1:50 a.m. He did not know where the two had traveled since they left Jackson County.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Peeples and the child's mother had argued in a relative's driveway just prior to the abduction.

Williams encouraged Robert Joseph Peeples to turn himself in to law enforcement.

This story will be updated.
