GDOT: Construction activity continues this week on I-85 in North Georgia

Construction activity for the I-85 widening project will require lane closures all week along the corridor in Gwinnett, Barrow and Jackson counties.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews began asphalt paving Sunday night on the interstate; the work will continue night for the next several days.

Single-lane closures will be in effect in both directions between Hamilton Mill Road in Gwinnett County and SR 53 in Jackson County, according to GDOT officials. Work will occur nightly from Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Friday from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday.

Traffic pacing activity will also occur in each direction from Sunday through Saturday night. Pacing activities will extend northbound from SR 20 in Gwinnett County to SR 211 in Barrow County and southbound from SR 211 to Hamilton Mill Road. Pacing will begin at 9 p.m. nightly and continue until 5 a.m. each morning.
