A North Carolina man accused in several crimes in South Hall County this week has a criminal history in his home state.
An article in The Warren Record dated April 22, 2015 said Demontae Cortez Lassiter was accused in a carjacking case in May 2014, but charges against him were dropped after he was declared insane. The judge ordered Lassiter committed to Central Regional Hospital in Butner, North Carolina.
It was not immediately clear when he was released.
On Wednesday, April 3, Lassiter reportedly assaulted an unknown victim on Sherwin Parkway in the Flowery Branch area before he traveled a short distance to a QuikTrip convenience store on Friendship Road and stole money from a cash register. Hall County Sheriff's Office deputies and Flowery Branch Police Department Officers were able to corner him as he drove his vehicle toward I-985. Investigators said the 29-year-old Lassiter resisted arrest, so he was charged with obstruction in addition to other crimes.
At last report, Lassiter remained in the Hall County Jail.
