The founder of Georgia Ethics Watchdog is adding his voice to the chorus of those calling for Georgia House Speaker David Ralston to resign not only from his leadership position, but also from his legislative seat in the State House.
William Perry said in a press statement issued Tuesday that his group will join with a group of legislators, led by GOP Rep. David Clark of Buford, in a call for Ralston to step aside. All have accused the Blue Ridge attorney of abusing a law that allows legislators who are lawyers to delay court appearances. They say Ralston has used his elected position to delay criminal trials for his North Georgia clients.
"This is the worst abuse of power I’ve seen in almost 25 years of working in politics, including the last 9 as a political ethics watchdog," Perry said.
Perry, Clark and others have scheduled at press briefing for 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 17 at the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta.
Perry said his group will ask Georgia citizens to sign a petition requesting that Ralston resign from the Georgia House of Representatives.
